Bethany Lojewski was crowned Miss Marshall County 2016 in October 2015 by the reigning Miss West Virginia Chelsea Malone. Bethany also won preliminary awards for the highest scores in both talent and private interview. Her platform is titled “Test One Drop” and surrounds type 1 diabetes awareness. After being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 12 years ago and addison’s disease more recently, Bethany is passionate about educating others on the signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes and other autoimmune disorders. She works to make others aware that a misdiagnosis or leaving the disease untreated can have severe, lasting consequences–sometimes even death.
Bethany graduated from West Virginia University in December 2015 with a B.S. in Child Development Family and Youth Studies. She aspires to become a certified child life specialist and work in a children’s hospital. She was also a member of the WVU marching band drum line from 2011-2015. She is a member of the music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota, and was a member of the diabetes club Type One Mountaineers. Bethany has been involved with the Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organizations for several years. She was crowned Miss West Virginia’s Outstanding Teen in 2008 and competed in Miss America’s Outstanding Teen where she won the Community Service Award and Online Photogenic Award. In recent years she has served as Miss Blackwater Falls, Miss Central WV, Miss Randolph County, Miss Kanawha Valley, and Miss Capital City. She has been awarded the Miss America Community Service Scholarship and Four Points of the Crown Scholarship, and has been a top 8 (2015) and top 12 (2014) finalist in past Miss West Virginia pageants.
